'What Conservative Movement?'

Verbatim post from Riehl World View:
Gary Bauer aside, Bush 43 was correct, there's more than enough evidence to conclude there is no genuine Conservative Movement in America today; mostly, it's a term of art to define a fairly lucrative industry. Had there been, there would have been no need for the Tea Party to rise up; there would be at least one, if not more top notch conservatives running for President this year and the self-professed leaders of said movement would be leading something, as opposed to running book clubs, now fatted institutions and selling speeches to anyone interested in hearing them discuss Republican politics and some ideals they, in large part, don't even fight for when it comes down to it.“What is this movement you keep talking about in the speech?” the president asked Latimer. Latimer explained that he meant the conservative movement — the movement that gave rise to groups like CPAC. Bush seemed perplexed. Latimer elaborated a bit more. Then Bush leaned forward, with a point to make. “Let me tell you something,” the president said. “I whupped Gary Bauer’s ass in 2000. So take out all this movement stuff. There is no movement.”h/t Erick Erickson for this in Time. My operating assumption for years has been that, for the most part, would be conservatives who rode Reagan's coat-tails to Washington have long been corrupted, at least in their thinking, as they've institutionalized themselves across so many foundations and think tanks now beholden to the same major funding mechanism that funds Republican politics. At this point, it's impossible to separate one from the other, though they'll continue to tell you they aren't one and the same. That's ridiculous. When an organization like the Heritage Foundation comes up with the underpinnings of Romneycare and now Obamacare, whether they've since backtracked, or not, what else is it that you really need to know? What Is a Conservative? Mitt Romney’s advance toward the Republican presidential nomination has provoked a lively conversation about what it means to be a conservative in America today. TIME asked a number of right-leaning thinkers to answer one of three questions to help define both their ideology and their challenges for the future. In fact, among those who chose to answer the question: Is there a crisis in the conservative movement? Reason's Nick Gillespie is by far the most honest and accurate, while making the most sense. At least since the election of St. Ronald Reagan, self-styled conservatives have repeatedly revealed themselves to be the biggest frauds or most delusional suckers in American politics. Conservatives ostensibly believe in limited government and individuals who are smart and moral enough to use voluntary associations and free markets to meet the needs of all God’s children. But under Reagan and, more recently, George W. Bush and a Republican Congress that spent like LBJ on a bourbon-fueled bender, they cheered an immense increase not just in federal outlays and borrowing but also in centralization of power in Washington. Before telling us that Mitt Romney is testament to the great success of Reaganite conservatism today - with a straight face, I hope - National Republicans Online editor Rich Lowry tells us there is no crisis in the movement today. Of course not, because there is no genuine movement and the only crisis that might gain Lowry's attention would be if NRO's donations took a nose dive. Does anyone believe Lowry is leading anything today that does anything but give Republicans a more right-leaning alternative to what progressive Democrats are trying to do at any point in time, as both parties ultimately combine to grow government and infringe upon the individual liberty of Americans? If Lowry leads anything, it's a shell game wrapped within a marketing scam based upon a brand he's all but destroyed. This isn’t a crisis; it’s a primary. A dispiriting one, to be sure, but it shouldn’t obscure the significant strengths of contemporary conservatism. Not that it matters a great deal, but I'm not ready to speculate on where things go from here for conservatives and to do so would make this post too long to be worth reading. It's something I want to think about and I would encourage other conservatives to think on it, too. But if the 2012 primary tells us anything, it is that, effectively, there is no genuine organized grassroots conservative movement in America today and the vast majority of those in Washington portrayed as leaders of some imagined conservative movement are little more than Republican Party toadies, more protective of and concerned with their place at the trough in Washington, than they are about advancing anything like genuine conservative ideas and ideals.
I agree with the all of the above except on one point, the conservative movement is alive and well with Ron Paul.Stop the whining, get back in the game, stop supporting frauds like Gingrich and Santorum, and vote for Ron Paul and give him as many delegates we can so he can lead a fight on the convention floor or just maybe a walk-out and let these frauds and hucksters have their precious GOP.

'Cannibals'

Sarah Palin:
  .
But this whole thing isn’t really about Newt Gingrich vs. Mitt Romney. It is about the GOP establishment vs. the Tea Party grassroots and independent Americans who are sick of the politics of personal destruction used now by both parties’ operatives with a complicit media egging it on. In fact, the establishment has been just as dismissive of Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. Newt is an imperfect vessel for Tea Party support, but in South Carolina the Tea Party chose to get behind him instead of the old guard’s choice. In response, the GOP establishment voices denounced South Carolinian voters with the same vitriol we usually see from the left when they spew hatred at everyday Americans “bitterly clinging” to their faith and their Second Amendment rights. The Tea Party was once again told to sit down and shut up and listen to the “wisdom” of their betters. We were reminded of the litany of Tea Party endorsed candidates in 2010 who didn’t win. Well, here’s a little newsflash to the establishment: without the Tea Party there would have been no historic 2010 victory at all.
I spoke up before the South Carolina primary to urge voters there to keep this primary going because I have great concern about the GOP establishment trying to anoint a candidate without the blessing of the grassroots and all the needed energy and resources we as commonsense constitutional conservatives could bring to the general election in order to defeat President Obama. Now, I respect Governor Romney and his success. But there are serious concerns about his record and whether as a politician he consistently applied conservative principles and how this impacts the agenda moving forward. The questions need answers now. That is why this primary should not be rushed to an end. We need to vet this. Pundits in the Beltway are gleefully proclaiming that this primary race is over after Florida, despite 46 states still not having chimed in. Well, perhaps it’s possible that it will come to a speedy end in just four days; but with these questions left unanswered, it will not have come to a satisfactory conclusion. Without this necessary vetting process, the unanswered question of Governor Romney’s conservative bona fides and the unanswered and false attacks on Newt Gingrich will hang in the air to demoralize many in the electorate. The Tea Party grassroots will certainly feel disenfranchised and disenchanted with the perceived orchestrated outcome from self-proclaimed movers and shakers trying to sew this all up. And, trust me, during the general election, Governor Romney’s statements and record in the private sector will be relentlessly parsed over by the opposition in excruciating detail to frighten off swing voters. This is why we need a fair primary that is not prematurely cut short by the GOP establishment using Alinsky tactics to kneecap Governor Romney’s chief rival.
As I said in my speech in Iowa last September, the challenge of this election is not simply to replace President Obama. The real challenge is who and what we will replace him with. It’s not enough to just change up the uniform. If we don’t change the team and the game plan, we won’t save our country. We truly need sudden and relentless reform in Washington to defend our republic, though it’s becoming clearer that the old guard wants anything but that. That is why we should all be concerned by the tactics employed by the establishment this week. We will not save our country by becoming like the left. And I question whether the GOP establishment would ever employ the same harsh tactics they used on Newt against Obama. I didn’t see it in 2008. Many of these same characters sat on their thumbs in ‘08 and let Obama escape unvetted. Oddly, they’re now using every available microscope and endoscope – along with rewriting history – in attempts to character assassinate anyone challenging their chosen one in their own party’s primary. So, one must ask, who are they really running against?
Sarah Palin is right, this about much more than Newt Gingrich, but about grass-roots conservatives.Don't get caught up in what Newt is or isn't,the establishment will do anthing to mantain its control of the GOP

My question to Sarah Palin,Rush, and even to Ron Paul,is how long will you put up with the establishment in the GOP and finally just give them their d@%^ party, and go form one of our own?Conservatives are never going to get anywhere in the GOP.Ronald Reagan was the exception not the rule.We need to realize this and move on.

Bill Kristol Wants Ron Paul To Leave The GOP

Bill Kristol:
“A lot of people when they criticize Ron Paul have to preface their criticism by saying, ‘you know, he’s good guy, he brings a lot to the debate,’” Bill Kristol said on C-SPAN. “I actually don’t buy that. I do not think he’s a particular good guy . . . I think it would be better for the Republican party, if he left the Republican party.”
You know what Mr. Kristol, they are a lot of us out here who wish Ron Paul would leave the GOP,and we would follow him right out the door too.It is clear, that if you believe in constitutional government, individual liberty, with a committment to smaller, less intrusive government, their is no longer a place set for you at the Republican party's table. The only time the GOP wants to hear from any of us,is just for us to open our wallets to fill their coffers and vote for the RINO of the month.Any other time we are to sit down and shut up and be thankful that they, the elites, let us stay in such a Grand Old Party.Maybe it is time to go!

Iowa GOP Establishment In Panic

The GOP establishment is in an uproar at the potential of a Ron Paul victory in the caucus in 2 weeks. The truth though is they have no one to blame for Ron Paul's rise than themselves.

This past year we have seen how a GOP House of Representatives -who were mostly elected under a Tea Party banner- has caved time and again.Right now in Washington we are arguing with the Democrats on whether to extend the Bush tax cuts either 2 months or a whole year.We should be putting our foot down demanding that they be made permanent and then if the Democrats want to end them, let them raise taxes.

Also, this current field of candidates is pathetic.Romney,Gingrich, and Huntsman are RINO's.Do not be fooled by any of their rhetoric they are essentially the same,Big Government Republicans.Bachmann and Perry are a joke.Santorum would be more of Beohner's leadership, which is lacking.

Ron Paul understands the peril this country is really in too. While the rest want to rearrange chairs on the deck of the Titanic,he understands we have to stop the leak -balancing the budget now, reducing the national debt now- if we are to survive.

Sarah Palin says this about Ron Paul:
“No one seems to have really grasped, except for Ron Paul, the gravity of our economic situation,”

All of this and more is producing Ron Paul's surge. Many conservatives are -like myself- dissatisfied with the GOP.Many of us just want a real choice between big government and smaller government. We want a party that stands for something, not a 'big tent' that stands for every thing and thereby stands for nothing.

That is the very appeal of Ron Paul,he actually stands for smaller government. He hasn't poll tested his belief's to see if they are popular or not.He believes what he says. You can't say that for the rest of the GOP.

'Underscoring The Wisdom Of The Founding Fathers'

From The Other McCain:
Now, the Founding Fathers gave us a Constitution that at least affords us the chance for something better. They knew, having just crawled out from under an authoritarian thumb, that a similar leader could arise in these United States.

Couple of points:
Don’t make it personal, no matter how personal the Bad Man gets. BHO is symptomatic, but he is not the disease. Merely voting him out does less good than you’d think.

Keep in mind: the problems are economic.US energy policy sucks, the monetary policy sucks even more, and the entitlement mentality has sapped the American zest for liberty to an alarming degree. You’ve had a Presidential candidate tell the truth about Social Security in a very big way, and now he’s being thrown under the bus. Can Americans handle the truth?

I think the country is still half-awake. The growing awareness of what is wrong is there. What is lacking is the leadership and guts to take the pain of correcting the mess.

You cannot take a moderate approach to cancer; hence the disquiet with the smooth-talking blue-state RINO possibilities for President. They either give good concession speech to BHO’s second term, or continue to expand the federal government, to the detriment of liberty.

We must restrain this federal government, as the Founders would have it.
Amen!

"Seperated At Birth?"

Via Moonbattery;
Can you guess which of these soft rodents recently crawled up the colon of the liberal media in search of approval?
